These simple, efficient, smokefree stoves tackle poverty in three great ways. First, they protect women and children from inhaling smoke, and thus from respiratory diseases –which cause up to a quarter of all child deaths in the developing world. Second, they use 70 per cent less firewood –which means less time spent collecting wood and more time in school or earning a living. Thirdly, using less wood conserves precious woodlands, which help keep soil fertile.
