A herd of goats is a highly prized commodity in Burundi.
The goats form the basis of a 'goat bank'. Farmers join the bank and provide food and shelter for a goat.
When the goat has kids, one of the next generation is given back to the bank. The bank then passes the kid to the next farmer who joins the bank.
They produce milk to drink, kids to sell and their droppings help fertilise the land so that vegetables can be grown to feed families.
Three gifts in one: a goat provides milk, fertiliser for crops and kids that can be sold. More
