Finding the right primary school is a challenge for Bangladeshi parents.
Either the schools are too far away from home, or lessons are taught in Bangla and not in the communities' own ethnic language.
Christian Aid has supported primary schools in remote rural areas for the past 20 years and now support local partner organisations to run 32 primary schools with a total enrolment of nearly a thousand pupils.
The partner organisations recruit and train teachers from the local community and provide textbooks in three languages. These schools are a great success - in December 2008, nearly 700 children went on to high schools to continue their education.
